Hi y’all, I’m Matthias

I work with people dealing with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma. My approach draws from Gestalt, Existential, and Relational-Cultural therapy, which in practice means I'm less interested in moving straight to solutions than in understanding what's actually happening for you, in your body, in your relationships, and in the present moment.

Before training as a therapist, I completed a PhD in philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin. I've found that background useful for sitting with hard questions that don't have clean answers.

Sessions with me tend to be honest and sometimes uncomfortable in a good way. I'll notice what's happening in your body, name what I'm feeling between us in the room, and I won’t look away from the hard stuff.

I currently work as a lead therapist in an Intensive Outpatient Program for eating disorders at Eating Recovery Center in Austin. I have a particular interest in working with men around eating disorders and body image, an area where good care is hard to find and the stigma around seeking it is real.
